QATAR – Adopted in 1971, Qatar’s unusual flag consists of a maroon field with a broad vertical white stripe on the left side. The serrated stripe has nine points on it, representing Qatar as the 9th member of the 'reconciled Emirates' of the Arabian Gulf at the conclusion of the 1916 Qatari-British treaty.
